Shoowa is made from the fibres of the raffia palm, and is a traditionally woven fabric by the Shoowa tribes within the Kuba Kingdom in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Shoowa panels of cloth are used for clothing, bartering and ceremonial uses. The fabrics are recognisable for their complex patterns of velvet like cut pile designs.
